Alternative Medicine Treatment for Rheumatoid Arthritis: Turmeric – Part 2

Now that you know what turmeric is and why you can use it as an alternative medicine treatment for your rheumatoid arthritis, let’s take a look at how much turmeric you should take.

It’s important to discuss with your doctor your interest in taking turmeric to treat your rheumatoid arthritis and any potential interactions with the drugs you are on. But, here’s the problem. Most doctors I know are not aware of turmeric’s value in rheumatoid arthritis. So…don’t be surprised if you don’t get much support.

In upcoming threads I will lay out an ideal supplement strategy for rheumatoid arthritis. In the meantime, if you decide to take turmeric…here are some basic guidelines.

Turmeric is available in capsule or spice forms. If you opt to take the capsules, each capsule contains between 400 to 600 mg of turmeric and you’ll likely take 3 capsules per day. If you prefer to add turmeric spice to your food, expect to add 0.5g to 1g of the powdered spice to your plate up to 3 times per day.

Proper storage of turmeric is also important. You want to make sure you store your turmeric away from heat and direct light. And it’s also a good idea to store it in a dry spot in your house. Heat and moisture can cause turmeric to not work the way it should.

Check back in with me in the coming days as we continue to take a look at turmeric as an alternative medicine treatment for your rheumatoid arthritis.
