You’ve probably heard the “autoimmune” term before but; what does it mean?
Try this…
When bugs like: viruses, bacteria or parasites enter your body, your body’s army, your immune system, goes crazy. You see; your immune system is designed to attack enemies and protect you…your own personal version of “homeland security”.
Here’s the problem.
What if your body’s army mistakenly attacks its allies, your body’s cells, instead of the enemy. We’d call this “friendly fire”. Unfortunately, this is not very friendly to your health. It’s called an autoimmune disease.
In rheumatoid arthritis, your body’s army sees the linings of your joints as the enemy and starts to attack. This causes swelling, leading to aching, throbbing, pain, weakened and eventually…deformed joints.
Rheumatoid arthritis can last for years and can progress until your movement and quality of life is very poor. Women get the disease more than men and it doesn’t seem to matter what ethnic or racial background you come from. As you know, it is most commonly found in the joints of your wrists and fingers, but has the ability to affect any joint in your body.
Here’s something you probably didn’t know…
Rheumatoid arthritis does not just affect your joints. It can also affect some of your vital organs like: heart, lungs and eyes. As you can imagine, this is not good. If you are between the ages of 40-60, you are at greater risk, however, kids and seniors get the disease too.
The cause of rheumatoid arthritis remains a mystery so we don’t have a cure at the moment. However, traditional and alternative medicine research, going on right now, may help us address the cause. In the meantime, there are traditional and alternative medicine treatments that can help you feel better, move better and even slow, or sometimes stop the joint damage and deformity.
Keep reading. Together, we’ll look at possible causes and…potential traditional and alternative medicine treatment options.
